The Royal Hospital Chelsea, located just a short walk from The Ivy Chelsea Garden, is one of the oldest retirement homes in the world. Founded by King Charles II for the ‘succour and relief of veterans’, it opened to the very first Chelsea Pensioners in 1692. Over 320 years later it continues to serve this same purpose today, offering a home, comradeship and the highest standards of care to some 300 armed forces veterans.

A Grade I and II listed site, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is a beautiful architectural legacy left to the Chelsea Pensioners by Sir Christopher Wren. Maintenance of the site continues today with on going restoration work to ensure that this legacy lives on into the future.
